The Relay

Every Blog has to start somewhere, this one starts at an event simply called The Relay. For those of you who don't already know about this madness, The Relay is a 200 mile non-stop running relay from Calistoga to Davenport, CA. It looks a little something like this:

Yes, you heard me right I said running and 200 miles in the same sentence. Two vans, full of six stinky runners each, leap-frog their way down the Bay Area over the course of (in our case) about 30 hours. Ah, good times.

Each runner has to run three sections (legs) of the relay for a total milage of between 13-20 miles per person. When we're not the one runner on the course we have to , eat (can you live on sports gels for two days?), sleep, recover, drive, navigate, attempt not drive each other crazy, etc. The team captain says that the running is the easy part. Not sure that I believe that yet...

Team "Run Fast, Go SLO" is heading up to the race start in Calistoga on Friday and on Saturday morning at 9am we'll lace up our little running shoes and head out! Oh and did I mention it's supposed to rain this weekend? Fan-tastic!

Considering I only have to run about three hours (did I really just say "only"???) that gives me about 27 hours cooped up in the van. I am going to attempt to continue to Blog this madness and mayhem in real time from the road. So stay tuned...
